How to Cope With a Bisexual Husband

Being or being with a bisexual individual can be a hard, and often, painful experience if you are unfamiliar with dealing with this kind of circumstance. Having a bisexual husband can often lead to problems within the marriage and suspicion will eventually lead to these problems.

1. Remember that he is no different from the husband you had the day before. If he has just come out to you then you must realise that he may have been battling with this issue for many years and he may be confused and scared. You must show him love and support even if you cannot understand his sexuality.

2.He is not going to cheat on you! If he is a faithful man, he is no more likely to cheat on you now than he was before. If you have been with him for a long time, you have built a long legacy of trust and this has not changed.

3.Don’t make it all about you! He is not bisexual because you cannot gratify him sexually and he is not bisexual because you have failed him. He is bisexual and, whether you like it or not, there is nothing you can do to alter his sexuality one-way or the other.

4.Don’t badger him. If you feel the need to ask him if he prefers men or woman (because it can change) then try not to do it every day. Try to understand that whether he prefers men or women he only wants you.

5.He’s not a girl! Just because he’s bisexual does not mean he will want to go shopping and watch girly films with you all the time. He may be inclined to do this (as his personality permits) but expecting him to because he is bisexual may lead to problems and you should avoid the words “you’re just like one of the girls” as this could emasculate your husband and make him feel weaker in the relationship.

6. Experiment sexually. When you are bisexual (whether you’ve just come out or have been out for years) occasionally in a monogamous relationship you may feel the need to think about men (much like straight men thinking about Jessica Alba during sex) and you should try and make him feel that it is okay for him to do this once and a while. Perhaps trying anal play (if he enjoys it) will also allow him to feel more comfortable about thinking about men. Keeping his desires bottled up could result in problems while being able to release them in a comfortable setting will make him (and you) a lot happier in the end.
